Odette is a small-town girl that dreams of so much more than her new promotion as night manager of a convenience store. She also looks after her rebellious 15 year-old sister and incredibly selfish mother. Only after meeting some new people does she see that her life can be so much more.
I identified, almost painfully at times, with Odette. It was really affirming that she tries to rise above her circumstances. On the other side, I didn't enjoy that she lies about who she really is in order to impress a rich sailor that shows interest in her.
The author did a great job of describing the village where Odette lives on the coast. It was really easy to slip into the setting.
I really only have one fault with the book, and that would be the use of French in conversation. I don't speak French, but got the gist of what they were saying.

I enjoyed this book.
The first chapter was hard for me to read because I was assaulted by heavy imagery, but after that the story got into a sweet spot and allowed the reader to be comfortable with the characters. I really liked the array of supporting characters as they were diverse but still distinct from one another. The supporting characters were very clear, sometimes you'd like them, sometimes you'd hate them, but that is what character development does.
I would have liked a little bit more character development for the main character, but her motivations and intentions were always quite clear. I would have liked to know more about who she was (e.g. her physical features, her interests, etc) rather than only understanding why she did the things she did.
I liked this book because it allowed me to get absorbed in the story. I'm from a big city, so it was interesting to read what it is like to live in a small town. The language was clear, and it was easy to read. I didn't want to put the book down simply because if I am completely immersed in a character's world, I like to continue to be immersed in it.
I believe the author holds a lot of promise for her next work, and I'd love to read whatever she's got in store next.
This book....pulled me from a very long dark recession of reading.
Thank you to the author for a complementary copy!
This book started with the premises of something so shallow....a virgin auctioning off her virginity, but that's where the shallowness ends.
This book
The characters were deep, including the gaming friends Mia had.
The plot was well thought, and gained insight the deeper one travels into this book.
The storyline....as said seems shallow, but is FAR FROM IT! It has a past, a present, and a future (that unfolds snd changes through the story)
Lastly, this book has jaw dropping moments, and the feeling that bombshells are going to drop (which kept me wrapped up).
So let's touch on the characters
Mia is a gaming geek, and an aspiring doctor. She wants to be able to pave her way through med school without debt, and comes up with the ultimate plan...a Virgin Manifesto! Her best friend, Heath is hesistant, but helps Mia weed out the losers from thr potential candidates.
Heath narrow thr candidates down to 2, and is insistent on Mia meeting Mr. Adam Drake, a very successful gaming CEO. The meeting stirs of reactions from Mia she felt she would new have (especially after what happened to her), but Mr. Drake leaves her flustered....she initially rejects Mr. Adam Drake...all for him to appear on her doorstep.
The story that follows is one of a roller coaster, respect, love, secrets, and insight. BOTH Mia's real life story, and the gaming life story, are full of surprises. I am not a spoil alert reviewer, and it kills me not to squeal at what this story unfolds!
This book gave me new appreciation of men in fiction books, and complete shock at how well it was written.
I truly am looking forward to the next book! Best of luck with writing the rest of the series, and keep up the awesome work!
I didn't write a review at the time I read this book so I read it again to able to write an accurate review. And I enjoyed it again! 3/27/16
The setting takes place in a small fishing village in Canada. The authors words make it come alive in your mind. You can imagine the sand on the beach, the ocean breeze and the shops in the village. There are a few words in French thrown in that I think added to the story.
The main character, Odette, is 23 and feels she is stuck with her situations in life. But due to incidents during one summer, she realizes that she wants more. You can see her change into the person she wants to be, not what is expected of her.
It's a great coming of age book. A slight romance, nothing overly sweet. No mystery. No suspense. Just a beautiful all around story of how we are the only ones who can bring change and good things to our life!
The ending made to me want to see what happens next so I would love to see a sequel. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a different type of read!
* I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
