Resonance in Singing and Speaking eBook Thomas Fillebrown Reviews
5 stars because it is a good read. Still reading but sure that this will not fail. Singers look to read this book.
I take singing lessons and new these concepts. This book does a brilliant job of explaining the various resonance chambers important for both speech and singing alike. Also, talks about misconceptions. The only negative point about this e-book is that images (e.g. throat, chest cavity) are missing and the explanation refers to them. That part is a bit inconvenient to read, but it's a bit technical, and I could do without the images as I skipped through it. The book is written by a Surgeon to help a patient or practitioner. But, I did not need all that technical detail. The rest of the explanation was enough for me as it lets you know what you are doing when you speak or sing, and gives an idea how you can make use of the resonance chambers or cavities for better speech and singing. Personally, I found the book useful.
Great information, I just need to practice more often , I'm seeing positive changes
Lecturer on voice development from The Music Students Library. Written to help patients after surgery, focusing and developing the human voice, differently from anything else published by 1911. The book covers the speaking voice and pronunciation, breath control, head and nasal, and throat stiffness. It explains, in great detail, the reason for training the facial muscles. Describes the vocal chords and larynx and valves, all that makes the voice resonate.
I refer to the book frequently to improve my phone voice for work, and to remember how to control my voice. When you breathe and use the facial muscles properly, singing and speaking is effortless.
I am grateful for this gift.
Book contains some excellent information most helpful to singers.
"Resonance in Singing and Speaking" is a little gem.
I have studied and practised techniques by three of the most well known modern instructors
and was surprised at the no nonsense depth of information offered by Mr. Fillebrown so
early in the twentieth century.
No doubt his skills as a Doctor and Oral Surgeon gave
him intimate insights into the vocal phenomena rarely obtained by most Singing instructors.
The same techniques are mirrored in theirs, he was ahead of his time and we can
benefit from reading and appying his knowledge for a paltry few dollars here on .
Hmmm, well, if you're going to sell a title that has exceeded copyright protection - especially one that can be found for free on the internet - shouldn't you AT LEAST include the illustrations and photos from the original source when the text refers to them repeatedly? I mean really! I bought this thinking it would be nice to have a hardcopy on hand for reference even if it costs a little money. Leaving out the illustrations and photos is a glaringly obvious case of not caring about the content of the original work much less the customer for this particular 'packaging' of the text.
