Tempting Faith Indigo Love Spectrum Crystal Hubbard 9781585712885 Books

I discovered Crystal Hubbard by accident and thoroughly enjoyed the first book I read "Crush". I went on to read "Burn" and enjoyed that too. Ms Hubbard's writing is very good and she has a way with humour that I like. It's difficult to find IR romance that isn't rife with spelling errors and so I devour Hubbard's works because she doesn't have these issues. After wading through a tonne of smut and ridiculous sex scenes in other "romance" books, IR and otherwise, it's refreshing to read scenes that are tastefully titillating without resorting to crass words. I do find myself searching the Kindle store every month or so to see if Ms Hubbard has any new novels out. I, however, was annoyed by a few things with this book.
1) This is probably petty but referring to Faith's pubes as a "bacon strip" annoyed me to no end. And yes Zander is well endowed but a "baton"? Really?
2) I failed to see how the play lent anything to the story. It could have been way shorter than it was and I have all the faith that the writer could have conveyed Zander's wonderful acting chops without resorting to this "show don't tell" device.
3) Although I liked Faith the teenager, I found it difficult to connect with the adult version of this character. Another reviewer brought this up so I won't delve too deep into it but I felt she treated Zander unjustly and unfairly by denying him his coping mechanism, i.e. not wanting to think about his hometown or go back there. It was heartbreaking to find that he had stocked his house with more food than he could consume on his own because he feared going hungry. Faith saw this but still admonished the poor guy later on for not wanting to go back to the place of his nightmares.

One more thing. What's happening with Grover Dylan? I am fascinated by this character. A handsome biochemist who plays in a band called "Knuckle Deep"? Yes please! I could have used another scene with this character. Maybe Ms Hubbard is writing/has written a book about Grover? I'll be the first to purchase.

Tempting Faith Indigo Love Spectrum Crystal Hubbard 9781585712885 Books Reviews

Now that I have finished reading all of Crystal Hubbard's books I can confirm that though Ms Hubbard is a good writer, and has some books that I really loved (Crush, Burn, Blame It On Paradise), she also has a knack for writing heroines that simply rub me the wrong way. First there was the heroine in Mr. Fix It who was hot and cold, resentful of her own fame, and quite the snob. Now we have Faith, who for some reason can't seem to cut Zander/Alexander a break, despite the fact that he has every right to NOT want to revisit a past that includes child abuse, both physical and emotional, as well as bullying. For the life of me I couldn't quite figure out what her problem was. One minute she was all over Zander, seeming to want him any way she could take him, the next minute she's going after him regarding this "supposed" secret of his about who he really was. So given our celebrity obsessed culture it would be an interesting story, but honestly if I came from a background like that I 1) wouldn't want to think about it again, 2) definitely wouldn't be interested in going back there, 3) would have no problem changing my name and identity to distance myself from it, and 4) wouldn't want to be bothered with someone who couldn't respect that. What Faith seemed to be missing in all of her selfish demands that Zander be Alex again, which I assume was mostly for her own selfish wants, was that this was how he coped with his past, was well within his rights to do so, and she really should have respected his right to deal with it in whatever way he chose. I understand that she felt like an outcast in their little town as well, but if you put it in perspective being an outcast is not akin to being a victim of child abuse. So while they may be kindred spirits in once sense, they are quite different in that Zander's history in West Virginia is decidely more traumatic. Faith's dogged attempts at forcing Zander to reconcile with his past were off-putting, I just wanted her to let it go already, and just enjoy being with him. I literally had to close this book out numerous times out of sheer exasperation with her. And like so many victims of abuse, Zander seemed to be willing to take whatever she was dishing just so that he could continue to have her, to be the receiver of her affections. The sex scenes between them were hot, but due to the fact that Faith just kept at Zander, I couldn't enjoy the rest of the book. So, I like Ms. Hubbard's writing style, I applaud her skill, but the heroine and the circumstances in this book simply made this too tough a read for me to really enjoy it.
Once again Crystal Hubbard weaves another INTRIGUING tale with a MEMORABLE cast of characters and her signature brand of witty dialogue throughout. I enjoyed Faith, she's a strong, independent and honest woman. I love the way Faith sees the real Alex Brannon with ALL his "scars" and still readily accepts him and loves him regardless of what the small minds of Booger Hollow have to say about him. The innocent attraction between Alex and Faith as teens is HEARTWARMING. And when they FINALLY reunite the passion between them is SIZZLIN'. My heart went out to Alex, with all the INTENSE physical and emotional abuse he endured as a youth and then having to make the ULTIMATE sacrifice and leave behind the ONLY person that ever showed him unconditional love. BUT will Faith's love be enough to pull Alex/Zander from the shadows of his painful past?!! Or will he let the "demons" of Booger Hollow destroy his second chance for a HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER?!! Mrs. Hubbard delivers another engaging and TEMPTING treat.
